Pediatric physiotherapy, also known as pediatric physical therapy. the branch of pediatric rehabilitation focuses on conditions that affect newborns to adolescents. Mainly focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders in children as well as musculoskeletal problems, cardiopulmonary problems, childhood obesity, etc.

The treatment plan is tailored according to the child’s condition, the area of involvement of the brain if it is a neurological condition, and the needs of the child. the therapeutic goals have to be discussed with the family as the treatment for the child will be throughout the day in some conditions. The pediatric physical therapist uses various approaches like NDT, Rood’s approach, etc.

The treatment goals vary depending on the individual child and his/her condition.

TO IMPROVE ALL MILESTONES: this includes gross motor, fine motor, personal and social, communication.

TO IMPROVE STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE: Activities like jumping, kicking, running  which incorporate play will help to improve strength and stamina.

PROMOTING FLEXIBILITY: stretching and strengthening to improve ROM of joints.

BALANCE AND COORDINATION: activities such as gait training, balance board, etc.

TO MAKE THEM INDEPENDENT: The ultimate goal is to make children independent in their daily activities.
